Seattle AIGA Board and FareStart Kitchen on National Day of Service 2013.

Saturday, January 19th – Your very own local board members and chairs of the Seattle AIGA Chapter braved the thick morning fog to participate in FareStart's Contract Kitchen on National Day of Service and Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

The day started with a quick intro on kitchen safety and procedures from Chef Rick and Chef Drew. We donned aprons, lovely hair nets and got straight to work chopping vegetables, fruit, meat, making salad and hundreds of pounds of mac and cheese for local shelters. After the hard but rewarding work, we were treated to a delicious FareStart lunch made by Chef Rick and the FareStart students themselves. Check out the photos on our Facebook page.

We'd like to thank Chef Rick, Chef Drew, and FareStart for the opportunity to serve our community at large and to learn some new nifty kitchen skills. Who knew that commercial emulsion blenders were about four feet tall? :-)

If you're interested in volunteering in your community, you can find more volunteer opportunities here at United We Serve. Feel free to send us your ideas and thoughts.
