The Lunch Box @ frog

An AIGA Seattle Thought Leadership Series

Join us at a different local studio each month for The Lunch Box. Break away from your desk to visit an amazing studio and listen to local design leaders present original perspectives that will inspire, shift or interrupt your relationship with the design space. After the presentation there will be a chance to ask questions and pick the brains of some of Seattle's brightest design minds.

This month's lunch will be hosted by John Rousseau of frog. He’ll discuss:

Design Thinking/Design Doing: a provocation about the role and value of intuition
Over the past decade, design discourse has been increasingly dominated by the vernacular of business—and particularly that of strategy and one of its recent manifestations, design thinking. As the discipline has matured and become more and more professionalized, this shift (from aesthetics toward process and strategy) has led to greater acceptance in the boardroom and greater visibility in society at large, while paradoxically lessening the importance of the individual designer and marginalizing the act of design itself. So, where do we go from here?

Presenter
John Rousseau – Executive Creative Director, frog
John leads the creative team in frog’s Seattle studio and is responsible for the overall portfolio. He also leads frog's brand practice in the US Region—where he has been active in shaping the offer and establishing a differentiated point of view that integrates brand strategy, innovation and experience design. His unique hybrid perspective has been shaped by a wide range of creative consulting and academic experiences.

Over the course of his 20-year career, John has worked across multiple design disciplines and with a variety of B2B and B2C clients including Arthur Anderson, Corona, Cummins, HP, Honeywell, Madison Square Garden, Microsoft, Nike, PepsiCo and Target, among others. He approaches his work from an open and holistic perspective that balances business requirements and human needs—without losing sight of his lifelong passion for exceptional design that meets the highest standards of concept and execution. He holds a BFA in Design from the University of Michigan, and an MFA in Design from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
