Steve Watson
Typography Director
Steve Watson is a founding partner and Co-Creative Director of
Turnstyle, a multidisciplinary design studio located in the Ballard.
He grew up in Boston, Massachusetts with the family motto: "if you can
say something that might be funny, you should go for it." Humor is
trumped only by using "the good typography" as the foundation of
Steve's design approach. Steve is excited to contribute to the Seattle
design community by working to educate, elevate and recognize
typographic excellence. Beyond a passion for typography, Steve's
secret talent is eating copious amounts of cheese with seemingly no
ill-effects on his digestive system.
Steve's work has been honored by a variety of publications and
organizations, including the AIGA, Communication Arts, Coupe, The
British Design and Art Directors' Club, Graphis, HOW, The One Show,
Print, STEP, The Society of Publication Designers and the Type
Directors' Club.
His branding and design experience includes work for DRY Soda Co.,
G.E., Microsoft, Reebok, Russell Investments, Steelcase, Teague and
Washington Mutual.
Steve has guest lectured at the AIGA–Salt Lake City Chapter, Design
Madison, SVC, Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle Central, and has
participated as a mentor for graphic design students at Shoreline
Community College. Prior to co-founding Turnstyle, Steve worked as a
Creative Director for The Leonhardt Group (now Fitch) and for The Van
Dyke Company. He holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Brigham Young
University and lives in Ballard with his wife, daughter and son. |
