Reality Check 2010: Session 1 /

What is Reality Check?
Reality Check is an event designed for students and newcomers to the field: This is your opportunity to receive constructive portfolio feedback from experienced design professionals. At Reality Check you can show your work and ideas to some of the best art directors and designers in the Northwest. All you need to do it preregister—and bring your résumé and portfolio to the reviews. The portfolio doesn't have to be perfect—that will come after you incorporate the advice you’re going to receive at Reality Check. You’ll be able use this event to check your understanding of how to create a powerful design portfolio. Participants will receive at least a half dozen reviews, probably more.

What to Bring & Do

Bring your portfolio and résumé—but we’re not expecting them to be 100% finished. Choose your 7–10 best pieces at various stages of completion and the accompanying résumé you plan to use to get that first job or internship. You may present digital work on your personal laptop (but don’t forget to charge the battery).
Dress as you would a real job interview; business casual clothes are recommended.

Have an open mind. Reality Check is all about the learning. The professionals we’ve invited are signing on to be your allies—they’ll shed light on the basic principles and ideas you should consider in creating a more powerful design portfolio.

Sessions
The event will be split into two 90-minute sessions. (In order to allow for as many participants as possible, you may only register for one session.) Individual reviews are limited to 10 minutes; time will be called, and you will move from reviewer to reviewer throughout the session. Each session is limited to 75 participants.

• Portfolio Review Session 1, 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
  8:30 a.m.: Check-in and orientation
  9 a.m.: Reviews begin, ending promptly at 10:30 a.m.
• Session 2, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  10:30 a.m.: Check-in and orientation
  11 a.m.: Reviews begin, ending promptly at 12:30 p.m.
