Following the success of AIGA Toledo’s past design Charrettes in February 2009 for the Martin Luther King Kitchen for the Poor (www.kitchenforthepoor.org), SETT Toledo (www.settoledo.com) in March 2010, and Claire’s Day (www.clairesday.org) last year, we are ramping up to do it all over again. Yup, 20 hand selected committed and caring members of the design community in partnership with Aly Sterling Philanthropy (www.alysterling.com) will gather again in March to give back their time and talent to a Northwest Ohio organization in need. What is a Design Charrette you might ask: It is a focused eight hour time frame where 20 print and interactive designers and writers will come together to develop a complete identity system, website and collateral materials for a local non-profit organization. Currently we are accepting applications for the 2012 Charrette.
If you are a 501 c3 or similar non-profit and would like to be considered for this year's event, please fill-out the application and email your completed form to: Merrill Rainey, merrillr@littlerainey.com
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS: February 17, 2012

Designing Opportunities: An Interactive Workshop
In this all-day workshop on Friday, February 24, designers and business entrepreneurs will work together to identify shared opportunities and learn to work together to realize them. After a few demonstrations to start the day, participants will work in teams to map opportunities, match skills with needs, develop business ideas and formulate strategies.
Workshop participants will learn to use the “positive deviance approach” to problem solving, which enables the group to discover existing solutions to complex problems. Using examples of designers and entrepreneurs who’ve succeeded at creating their own futures in challenging times, workshop participants will follow a unique process to identify and optimize existing, sustainable solutions from within the community to speed up the innovation process.

We’ve all had that embarrassing moment at work. You know, the one that makes you think ‘did that really just happen” while your body sweats like mad and your face turns tomato red simultaneously? Now, thanks to your friends at AIGA Detroit and Ad Craft, you can put those moments to good use at the third annual industry flavored storytelling event, themed “my most embarrassing moment on the job.”
Contestants will be given 5 minutes to tell the most awesome, hilariously embarrassing moment ever surfaced within their career. A panel of mock judges will score the stories, and winners will be given awesome prizes. Don’t feel like telling a story? Come anyway, take in a drink (or several), cheer on our contestants and socialize with other industry dwellers.
10 dollars for Members, 15 dollars for non-members and this includes your first drink!
Think you have the perfect story for this? Reserve yourself a spot by emailing Alex Harvilla at aharvilla@detroit.aiga.org
