Re | THINK: A poster show from AIGA Raleigh June 12, 2010 /

by Justin Parra

The sidewalks of Ballard came alive with art, food, and good company at June’s Second Saturday ArtWalk. Jelvetica and Richard Hilner Architects opened their studio on Ballard Avenue to “Re | THINK,” an exciting mix of visual designs created to help us “rethink” sustainability within our local communities. The work  ranged in topic from carpooling to recycling, and even the irony of using paper to promote sustainability. The show inspired conversations about our own efforts to be more sustainable as well as a few laughs about the humorous interpretations of our fellow AIGA members. The “Yay Timmy” poster by designer Joey Ellis was where both AIGA members and the public spent the most time. This clever, flowchart-style poster spelled out the multiple possibilities that can result from your decision to recycle. The AIGA Raleigh project is one small part of a nationwide initiative by AIGA to benefit the public good through design.

I know Joey! In fact we used to be Co-Education Directors in Charlotte, NC. Great guy and a great designer. Cheers to Everyone in AIGA Raleigh for getting this show off the ground and sustaining it year after year.
