About AIGA / The Seattle Chapter Board

David Newman
Website Director

It was music that brought David to the world of graphic design in the mid-nineties when, after completing his first (and only) EP, Unknowing, he found himself designing his first CD cover. Working his way into the professional graphic design field, David took all the pro bono freelance work he could while simultaneously taking classes at Seattle's School of Visual Concepts and cutting his teeth in package design forArchie McPhee. At McPhee, David had the honor of designing packaging for such world-famous novelties as "Raven the Nodding Goth Girl," "Handy Hindus," the "Lucky Monkey" and the ever-memorable "Glow-In-The-Dark Toe Hooks."

As Senior Graphic Designer and Creative Manager for Maxon Furniture Inc. David honed his professional skills including art and photo direction, marketing copywriting and management of broader marketing efforts including a complete corporate rebranding.

David now can be found working at Seattle's Museum of Flight as Marketing Communications Manager. His responsibilities include marketing team leadership, creative management & direction and marketing graphic design. David is also the Managing Editor of, and a contributing writer to, the museum's bi-monthly magazine, Aloft.

Through it all, David has maintained an emphasis on giving back to the community with pro bono work as graphic designer and marketing consultant for such clients as the March of Dimes, Teens in Public Service, Aradia Women's Health Center and Pike Market Child Care & Preschool.

David is also the creator of the social networking group for designers and artists, "design|group," where he has helped to found a community of people who are willing to listen to him discuss typography and the effect of visual stimuli on creativity, endlessly. David lives on Beacon Hill with his beautiful wife, brilliant and sweet children and portly dog, and loves to sing, play guitar and ride his scooter.
